The special route ran outside the highways to maintain a low average speed. Furthermore, to reduce energy consumption, the climate control, audio system, and all additional comfort features were turned off. During the trip, it was even necessary to warm up — in one frame, it is visible that the driver is wearing a jacket and scarf.
This record exceeds the official range according to the European WLTP cycle (805 km) by 25%. The authors of the experiment managed to prove that smart route planning and giving up certain conveniences allow achieving outstanding results from modern electric cars.
However, it is important to remember that such experiments with turning off all comfort options and moving at minimal speed do not reflect real travel conditions. Moreover, current versions of the BMW iX3 are equipped exclusively with two electric motors, but in the future, the company is likely to offer a single-motor, even more economical modification.
