Mercedes-Benz confirmed the development of a new convertible based on the G-Class SUV by releasing photographs of the prototype being tested in Austria.

The first announcement of the open-top G-Class SUV was made in September 2025. Now Mercedes-Benz has shared several photographs of the prototypes being tested in Austria and promised to conduct intensive winter tests later in Sweden.

The convertible is based on the current generation of the G-Class, and that's where the details about the car end. However, it can be assumed that this open-top SUV will be presented under the Mercedes-Maybach brand.

By the way, there was already an official convertible in the history of the G-Class. At the 87th Geneva Motor Show in March 2017, Mercedes introduced the Maybach G 650 Landaulet. This luxurious car, measuring 5.35 meters long, was created based on the G 500 4×4², but with an engine from the G 65 AMG with a power output of 463 kW (630 hp).

With such a powerful powertrain, the 3.3-ton Landaulet accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in less than six seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

Production was limited to 99 units. Sales began in September 2017 at a starting price of 749,700 euros.
