Toyota has unveiled the European version of the updated electric car bZ4X. The crossover received new batteries, more powerful motors, new interior materials, and a modified exterior design.

The updated Toyota bZ4X is presented with batteries with a capacity of 57.7 kWh and 73.1 kWh. The first is available only for the front-wheel-drive version, the second for both front- and all-wheel-drive versions.

The maximum power of the front motor was increased by 11% from 150 to 167 kW, and the maximum power of the rear motor from 80 to 87 kW. In the all-wheel-drive version, the total power of the bZ4X is 252 kW/343 PS, making this model one of Toyota’s most powerful in Europe.

The maximum range is achieved with the front-wheel-drive version with a 73.1 kWh battery and 18-inch wheels. This version can reach 569 km on a full charge in the WLTP cycle. Furthermore, the all-wheel-drive bZ4X can now tow trailers weighing up to 1500 kg. With front-wheel drive, the towing capacity remains at 750 kg.

The new batteries supplied by Prime Planet Energy Solutions (PPES) are configured to accommodate an additional 26 cells in each module without increasing the device size. The 57.7 kWh battery consists of 78 cells, while the new higher capacity module consists of 104 cells. The previous module had 96. PPES is a joint venture of Toyota Motor Corporation (51%) and Panasonic Corporation (49%), established in 2019.

For AC charging, higher-end vehicles are equipped with a new 22 kW onboard charger. The charging time for 10-80% SoC is 2.2 hours. With fast DC charging at 150 kW, the charging state can increase from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes.

The main changes in the exterior design focus on evolving the brand-distinctive design of the Toyota front. Slim headlights are combined with a new central LED daytime running light that traces the front edge in a hammer style. The lower grille and bumper have been redesigned, and the wheel arches are now in "piano black".

In the interior, the new dashboard has received a flatter design. The driver display is now located above the steering wheel level, allowing for less eye movement to perceive data and information. The steering wheel is now heated across its entire circumference, and new shift paddles allow the selection of the brake energy recuperation mode (four levels available).

The new 14-inch screen of the multimedia system has replaced the previous 12.3-inch screen. The center console has been lowered by 10 cm, forming an independent "digital island" with a shift lever and two wireless chargers for the driver and front seat passenger. On the rear console, there are two USB ports whose power has been increased from 15 to 60 watts.

Another innovation is the 20% larger panoramic roof without a central longitudinal support. Additionally, the inner door handles are illuminated in red if there is a risk of opening the door into the path of an approaching vehicle from behind.

Depending on the version, different upholstery options with recycled and vegan materials are offered. These include a new fabric made from recycled PET yarn and a soft yet durable synthetic leather with texture.

The new bZ4X will be introduced in December in several European markets and then in additional markets in January and February 2026.

The model range has been simplified to two equipment variants – Mid and High. The Mid variant is available with a 57.7 kWh battery and front-wheel drive and with a 73.1 kWh battery with front- and all-wheel drive. The High versions use the larger capacity battery and are offered with front- or all-wheel drive.
