The new Opel Frontera crossover received an off-road tuning from Irmscher with a bull bar and new wheels.

The revival of the Frontera name in the Opel lineup has sparked a lot of discussion. Instead of the past frame SUV, we received a modern compact crossover that replaces the Crossland. However, for those who lacked visual aggression and hints of adventure, the German atelier Irmscher has prepared its own answer. The project called Frontera Cross — is the first large-scale attempt to give the new soft-roader the character that its historical name demands.

New face of the compact crossover

The German tuners from Remshalden have specialized in modifying Opel cars for over 50 years, so it's no surprise they were the first to take on the newcomer. The main idea of the Cross package — is not to turn the car into an uncompromising all-terrain vehicle for trophy raids, but to make it more noticeable in urban traffic and slightly more confident off-road.

The most noticeable change — is the front end. Here appeared a massive «bull bar» made of stainless steel and painted in black matte color. It not only adds visual mass but also protects the lower part of the bumper. Oval tubular side steps were installed on the sides, which, besides the aesthetic function, facilitate entry into the cabin and access to the roof.

Wheels and aerodynamics

For the Frontera Cross project, special 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels of the Cross Star series were developed. Their design with wide spokes emphasizes the body's athleticism, and the use of specific tires with a developed tread hints at readiness for light off-road. A sporty spoiler appeared at the back, visually extending the roofline.

The image is completed with Irmscher's signature graphics on the body sides. This is a traditional atelier technique that allows you to instantly identify a modified car. All decor elements are made in a consistent style.

Technical tweaks and comfort

Although most changes affect the appearance, the tuners offer an optional package for the chassis. This refers to a re-tuned suspension with increased ground clearance. This allows you to feel more confident on dirt roads without losing the comfort that Opel engineers laid out when designing the platform.
