Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun conducted a 3.5-hour stream with a complete disassembly of the Xiaomi SU7 to demonstrate the actual quality of the components.

When an IT giant takes on cars, skeptics usually expect a nice wrapper with nothing inside. But Lei Jun decided to close this issue radically: he organized a complete teardown of the new Xiaomi SU7 Pro 2026 live. The stream lasted three and a half hours during which the electric car was deconstructed to the level of individual nodes.

For a professional assessment, the head of Xiaomi Auto invited an automotive safety expert, Zhu Xichan. The Pro version was taken apart — the mid-range configuration with rear-wheel drive, an LFP battery with a capacity of 96.3 kWh, and air suspension. The price of such a car is $36,290.

Complex layers and strong metal

The teardown began with the bodywork. Xiaomi uses 3C2B (three layers, two bakes) painting technology. Beneath the paint is galvanized steel, and the first layer of primer is baked at 160 °C for 20 minutes. This creates a base resistant to chipping and corrosion. The second layer is responsible for color, and the final lacquer is applied twice for depth of shine and baked at 140 °C, which increases scratch resistance.

The Pro version wheels are manufactured using milling — each wheel takes 13 hours of work and 22 different tools. A new 4D millimeter-wave radar and active air shutters are integrated into the front bumper. The headlights received active cooling with fans and two air ducts.

Electronics and comfort without excessive pomp

The Xiaomi SU7 uses a "four-in-one" control module. The company has combined the cockpit, autopilot, vehicle systems control, and communication into one unit. This significantly reduced weight and simplified the architecture. Instead of traditional fuses, electronic ones are installed here, which immediately trip in case of overload.

Inside the cabin, 90% of the door panel surfaces are covered with soundproofing cotton from the inside. The 25-speaker acoustical system received metal grilles for better sound transmission, and the refrigerator under the center tunnel has grown to 18.4 liters. The front trunk with 105 liters now opens with an electric drive, including using voice commands.

Safety as a priority

The power structure of the body is composed of 90.3% high-strength steel and aluminum alloys. During the stream, crash test results were shown: a collision with 50% overlap at a speed of 60 km/h. The front deformation zone functioned as intended, absorbing energy, with the front pillar remaining intact, and the doors opened effortlessly.

An interesting solution is the three-section design of the rear floor. This is done for inexpensive repairs after minor accidents: instead of replacing the entire expensive cast part, only the damaged segment can be replaced. Nine airbags, including specially woven side curtains, are responsible for passive safety.

Let us remind you that the Xiaomi SU7 is a fairly large sedan, 4997 mm long with a wheelbase of 3000 mm. The 2026 model on the Chinese market has already gathered 40,000 orders. Base versions offer 315 hp, while the top Max produces 681 hp and can travel up to 902 km on a single charge in the CLTC cycle.
