The Isuzu D-Max pickup received a more powerful 2.2-liter engine and a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

At the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, the 2026 model year Isuzu D-Max was presented, featuring not only a larger engine but also a new transmission and modern technological solutions.

New 2.2 engine: more torque

The main news is under the hood. The previous 1.9-liter engine gives way to a new 2.2-liter turbo diesel. Power is 163 hp (120 kW) at 3600 rpm, but more importantly, the torque figure is 400 Nm.

Together with the engine, a new eight-speed automatic transmission debuted. There is also the option of a six-speed "manual." Isuzu remains true to its utilitarian philosophy: a shift-on-the-fly all-wheel-drive system up to 100 km/h, a low range, and a rear differential lock are still present. The Rough Terrain mode for difficult terrain has also been retained.

Hardware for real work

The Isuzu D-Max has always been valued for its endurance, and the updated model maintains this standard. The pickup can tow trailers weighing up to 3,500 kg, and its payload capacity reaches 1,205 kg. The wading depth is up to 800 mm.

The top versions (DL40 and V-Cross) now feature a 360-degree surround view system, making it easier to maneuver this large vehicle in tight spaces or off-road. The wheels sport new 18-inch rims with Dunlop tires designed to enhance road grip and fuel efficiency.

Design and technological features

Visually, the 2026 model is recognizable by a new grille and redesigned lighting. The color palette includes a new shade, Urban Moss. Inside, the cabin has become somewhat more comfortable thanks to new trim materials and modified seat profiles. Official company statements indicate a strong focus on safety.

Now, the driver monitoring system tracks fatigue and concentration levels, issuing warnings when necessary. The emergency lane-keeping system has also been added. The body range remains extensive: from Single Cab to full Double Cab.
