Stellantis continues to unveil its brands’ plans as part of the strategy until 2030. And Alfa Romeo seems to be prepping two very different projects: a new compact SUV and a special model for collectors and fans of the brand.

Initially, Alfa Romeo planned to transition the new generations of Giulia and Stelvio exclusively to electric traction. But later the company changed course and decided to keep versions with internal combustion engines.

This is apparently what is delaying the launch of the models. The transition to hybrid powertrains will require significant redevelopment of the platform and technical architecture. As a result, the current Giulia and Stelvio will remain in production for a few more years.

Alfa Romeo is preparing another compact SUV

While the main models are delayed, the brand is working on a new compact crossover. Most interestingly, it will not be a replacement for the Tonale. Stellantis hints that the new product will occupy a separate position in the lineup and will coexist with the Tonale.

What exactly the models will differ in is not yet explained. But it is clear that Alfa Romeo wants to increase sales in the most popular market segment. For the brand, this is quite a pragmatic step. SUVs have long been the main source of profit for almost all premium brands, and Alfa Romeo is no exception here.

But fans were also remembered

At the same time, Alfa Romeo and Maserati are working on a joint special project under the Bottega Fuoriserie program. It involves ultra-expensive limited-series cars for a very narrow circle of clients. The company describes them as "emotional cars" that should go beyond the usual models of the brand.

Something in the style of Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale or Maserati MCXtrema is expected — that is, maximum exclusive cars with minimal production runs and, likely, a seven-figure price tag.

Possible modern Duetto

The company does not officially reveal what the new special project will be. But Italian media already speculate that Alfa Romeo might be working on a modern interpretation of the Spider Duetto.

Rumors suggest that the car could be built on the base of the Maserati MC20 Cielo. If this information is confirmed, it will be a very niche and expensive sports car — much in the same vein as the 33 Stradale, which was sold out even before its official production start.

Fans also remember the old teasers well

All this looks especially interesting against the backdrop of Alfa Romeo’s history with unrealized projects. In the late 2010s, the company already showed teasers of the new 8C and GTV, but both models were subsequently canceled. Therefore, many are cautiously optimistic about the current announcements.

However, this time the situation looks more serious: Stellantis is explicitly talking about new models, and the collaboration between Alfa Romeo and Maserati within Bottega Fuoriserie is already officially confirmed.
