Mazda has teamed up with Hiroshima shoe brand Spingle to produce a driving-focused leather sneaker called the SP-MZD — and if you want a pair, you'll need a Japanese shipping address. The collaboration is Japan-exclusive, priced at 26,500 yen (roughly $166), and Mazda has signaled no plans to expand it to North America or any other market.
The SP-MZD is the second joint project from these two Hiroshima neighbors. Last year's SP-MX5 was inspired by the MX-5 roadster and came in brighter colorways — red and blue among them. This new model scales back the palette to two options: Sport Tan/Black and all-black. The Sport Tan shade was specifically chosen to mirror the interior trim of the updated CX-5.
Two years in the making, built in Hiroshima
The sneaker took about two years to develop. Teams from both companies visited each other's factories to align on materials, construction, and fit. Every pair is assembled in Hiroshima.
The upper uses kangaroo leather, with suede panels placed at key flex points — not just for looks, but to let the shoe bend more naturally when pressing pedals. Seven unisex sizes are available. Each pair ships in a branded box printed with a sketch of the shoe.
What it costs and where to get it
At roughly $166, the SP-MZD sits in the same ballpark as premium driving shoe collaborations like BMW's long-running partnership with Puma — though those are sold globally, while this one isn't. Sales go through the Mazda Collection Online store (Japan only), the Spingle online shop, and 14 Spingle retail locations across Japan.
MazdaShop USA carries apparel and accessories, but sneaker collaborations haven't crossed over from Japan. There's no announcement suggesting that changes anytime soon. For now, the SP-MZD is a niche brand collectible — well-made by all accounts, tied to genuine local craft, and firmly out of reach for most Mazda fans stateside.
