The recall campaign number 22V-542 covers 523 Golf Rs built between December 8, 2021 and April 25, 2022, and 1,715 Golf GTIs built between December 14, 2021 and May 6, 2022.
These vehicles are equipped with a sunroof touch switch whose slider area is "too sensitive". So sensitive that it can be activated with the “FMVSS118 test steel ball” despite having an anti-pinch system.
Even if you do not carry the FMVSS118 test steel ball with you, inadvertently pressing the switch may cause the sunroof to close automatically. And this, explained the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), increases the risk of injury.
Owners of vehicles with problem switches will begin receiving notifications starting September 23, 2022. They will be offered to take their vehicle to the nearest dealership for a free sunroof switch replacement. The updated part complies with regulatory requirements.
