Three new Bayraktar TB-2s are adorned with an ornament in the style of the Ukrainian folk shirt — vyshyvanka. In addition, “People's Bayraktar” is written on each drone. The inscriptions are made in Ukrainian and Turkish.
"People's Bayraktar" is a project of the Ukrainian charitable foundation of Sergei Prytula and blogger Igor Lachenkov (Lachen). In June 2022, Prytula and Lachenkov announced a fundraiser for the purchase of three TB-2 drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
In a few days, 600 million hryvnias were collected (at that time about 20 million dollars). However, Baykar refused to accept the money and instead promised to donate three drones to Ukraine for free. The Prytula Foundation announced that the collected funds will be used at the discretion of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In August, it became known that the charitable foundation bought one SAR satellite from ICEYE with the money of the People's Bayraktar project. It will remain under Ukrainian control until it runs out of resources. In addition, the Ukrainian military will have access to the base of the entire ICEYE satellite constellation for one year.
Satellites with SAR technology are capable of taking high-resolution photographs of parts of the earth's surface at any time of the day, through clouds, smoke and precipitation.
Thus, Ukraine received not only additional Bayraktar TB-2 drones, but also operational access to intelligence information. Such information is especially valuable against the background of the receipt by the Armed Forces of Ukraine of new types of high-precision weapons, such as the American MLRS HIMARS and M270.
Bayraktar TB2 is an attack tactical medium-altitude unmanned aerial vehicle with a long flight duration, equipped with an internal combustion engine and an automatic take-off and landing system. Produced by the Turkish company Baykar Makina.
