Guangzhou Auto Corporation (GAC) is the fifth-largest automobile maker in China. The GAC Aion is a brand dedicated to electric vehicles that has had some recent successes in China. It began selling its LX Plus SUV with a range of 626 miles at the start of the year, and it opened its first battery-swap station in April.
Now GAC has revealed a fantastically fast SSR supercar based on the 2020 Enpulse concept. According to company, the two-door bullet is comparable to the Tesla Model S Plaid or the Rimac Nevera when it comes to performance.
The Aion Hyper SSR will come with two options: a rear-wheel drive that goes up to 1,225 hp/1,241 ps (913 kW) and a four-wheel drive called the Hyper SSR Ultimate. The latter can go from 0 to 60 mph in only 1.9 seconds! We have no information yet about how many motors it has or what kind of drive mode it offers.
The Hyper SSR includes a typical sports car roof line and wide front and rear fenders. It is 100% carbon fiber-bodied to help with the vehicle's performance, safety and weight. The gull-wing doors are also aesthetically pleasing.
The car's interior has an 8.8-inch display and a 14,6-inch infotainment system similar to what you would see in other cars like Tesla. GAC Aion says that the vehicle will have a "lever-type electronic shift mechanism". We'll have to wait until the company drives it around more before we know exactly what they mean by that.
The Hyper SSR's price is what truly stands out. GAC Aion claims that, for the basic rear-wheel drive model, the car will be priced at 1.28 million yuan ($182,300), and that for the Ultimate version, it will cost 1.68 million yuan (around $240,000). In China, sales of the new supercar should start at the end of 2023
The Hyper SSR capabilities look good on paper, but we'll have to wait to see how it actually performs on the road. Hopefully, GAC Aion will bring this car to international markets so that we can all find out!
