The all-new 2023 Mitsubishi ASX small crossover has been unveiled, and it's basically a Renault Captur with with a slightly redesigned face.

The new generation of Mitsubishi ASX is created with a view to the European market. This car has become a good example for the definition of "badge engineering," because except for the grille and emblem it is already familiar second-generation Renault Captur. The main rivals of this concept will include the Renault Captur, as well as the Nissan Juke, Skoda Kamiq, and Volkswagen T-Cross.

Mitsubishi has copied Renault's engine choices, which are well-known to Renault owners. The lineup starts with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 90 horsepower (67 kW/91 PS).

There is also a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two power outputs, which has 12-volt mild hybrid technology. The powertrain includes a 138-hp (103 kW/140 PS) six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with 155 hp (116 kW/158 PS).

The ASX is also the first full hybrid Mitsubishi being sold in Europe, thanks to a 1.6-liter gas engine that comes with two electric motors and an automatic multimode transmission. This powertrain offers 141 hp (105 kW/143 PS).

The range is topped out by a 1.6-liter plug-in hybrid powertrain. It combines two electric motors and features a 10.5 kWh battery that enables the ASX to go up to 49 km (30 miles) on electricity alone. The powertrain is capable of pumping out 157 hp (117 kW/159 PS).

The new Renault ASX has an analog dashboard and a 7-inch multimedia landscape format display in the basic package. The top versions feature a 10.25-inch digital dashboard display with 3D navigation and 9.3-inch portrait orientation multimedia screen. The console also provides options for the driver to control the driving mode, entertainment functions, and ambient lighting. The ambient lighting alone offers 8 different colors to choose from.

The 2023 ASX also comes with a suite of advanced safety features. These include standard rear-end collision warning system with emergency brake assist and pedestrian and cyclist detection, in addition to active lane keeping, and traffic sign recognition. Blind spot assist, active lane tracking, speed warning, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist are also available.

The highest trim models are also available with MI-PILOT, which combines the adaptive cruise control and active lane centering to take over some driving functions when you're on the road.
