The Tesla Model Y sells almost 3,000 more than the VW Golf, which is a considerable lead. This may be because of the traditional end-of-quarter backloading; however, it is still an impressive performance. It's also worth noting that this is the first time in German history that an EV has been the best-seller.
The Golf lost the pole position for the second month in a row, an event that also happened from October-November 2021. The VW Tiguan remains at #3.
In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling mid-size sedan. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority counted almost 4,000 new registrations of Tesla's most affordable electric sedan in September.
In the end, this new registration statistic might be interpreted as a slap in the face for Germany's biggest automaker, which has dominated its domestic market for so long. It may now have lost its lead by underestimating Tesla's rapidly increasing demand for electric cars like the Model 3 and Model Y.
