Mercedes-Benz has announced that their sales figures for Q3 reached 517,800 units (+21%). This was despite semiconductor shortages and disrupted supply chains. Deliveries in China meanwhile grew by 37% to 206,800 units.

China is an important market for many luxury European brands, including Mercedes-Benz. This is shown by the latest sales figures. In the third quarter of this year, Mercedes-Benz sold 206,800 cars in China. That's 37% more than in the same quarter last year and it accounts for 40% of all sales.

Over the entire year to date, the Chinese market accounts for some 37 percent of Mercedes' sales. This makes it the largest sales market for the brand. In fact, Asia as a whole accounts for almost half of all sales.

Sales in China may be picking up even further, as the country seems to be slowly but surely picking up after the prolonged lockdowns due to the COVID-19. Mercedes-Benz is also facing a new challenge. This challenge is closer to home. The high energy prices are forcing the company to take measures. Mercedes thinks it may be able to cut gas consumption in half without reducing production. So far this year, Mercedes has sold 6 percent fewer cars than it did in 2021 which was also a challenging year.
