For those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Mercedes-Benz introduces two Marco Polo concepts that turn the EQT electric van into a camper. One is a full conversion while the other has a simple, removable module – perfect for weekend getaways.

With the Concept EQT Marco Polo the brand with the star is providing a preview of the new, fully electric and fully fledged micro camper van based on the EQT, which is equipped with numerous innovations for the segment.

Mercedes-Benz EQT Marco Polo concepts

The silver van has been modified to act as a camper, using the long-wheelbase EQT as its base. A pop-up roof panel provides enough space for people to stand up inside the vehicle, and also contains a sleeping area measuring 1.97 meters (77.56 inches) by 0.97 meters (38.2 inches). The windows can be zip out so that occupants can enjoy views of their natural surroundings while they camp.

The pop-up roof has a solar panel, which is great for keeping the battery charged. There's also a removable battery in a drawer, so occupants can use that if they need to, rather than draining the pack that runs the motor and reducing the van's range.

The lower area features a fold-out mattress that measures 2 meters by 1.15 meters (78.74 inches by 45.28 inches). A bench on one side provides extra seating even when the bed is in use. Pressing a button darkens the windows for privacy. The kitchenette comes with a sink, an induction cooktop, and a refrigerator box. If you prefer to prepare your meals outdoors, there's also a gas camping stove in a drawer. The fold-out table is electrically height-adjustable for your convenience.

The production version of this van is set to release in the second half of 2023.

The blue car photographed is the short-wheelbase model, which previews the Marco Polo Module. The Module has two sections: a sleeping area (standard) and kitchen unit (additional option). These pieces attach to tiedown eyelets in the luggage compartment and are removable.

The bed unit has a fold-out mattress that is 2 meters by 1.15 meters. When the rear seats are stowed, they are still usable. The package comes with blackout covers for the windows so that occupants can sleep in privacy. The kitchen unit has a 12-liter (3.17-gallon) water tank, refrigerator that hold 15-liters (0.53 cubic feet), and a gas camping stove for cooking. The set also comes with two chairs and a table that can be stored inside or outside the van as needed.

Mercedes has not announced when the Marco Polo Module will be available for purchase.
