During a phone call, President Macron announced to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky that France would be supplying Ukraine with AMX-10 RC light combat tanks. This marks the first time ever Western-designed tanks are being transferred to the Ukrainian armed forces as an expansion of already existing military aid from France. After a lengthy discussion between both leaders, lasting one full hour, this statement was issued by French presidency.
Emmanuel Macron reiterated France's "unwavering support" to Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris, wishing for it to serve as an example of the French military aid's consistency and lastingness.
The AMX-10 RC is a French armoured fighting vehicle manufactured by GIAT for armoured reconnaissance purposes. "RC" stands for "Roues-Canon" (meaning "Wheeled gun") and the vehicle can also be described as a wheeled tank destroyer or light tank, being referred to as a "char" (which is the French word for tank) in French service.
The AMX-10 RC is fitted with a 105/47 F2 MECA 105 mm medium-pressure gun mounted in a GIAT Industries TK 105 three-man turret; the F2 cannon fires 105×527R proprietary ammunition.
The French army's AMX-10 RC has been deployed to many theaters of operation since it was introduced, including the First Gulf War, the War in Afghanistan, in Mali, Kosovo, Ivory Coast, etc.
