The Andretti Cadillac team intends to submit an Expression of Interest when the FIA begins the formal process for new entrants. If selected, the team is aiming to participate in the competition as soon as possible, with a goal of fielding at least one American driver.
According to GM, "This reunites two iconic American companies with deep motorsports pedigrees and provides the opportunity to build on previous racing accomplishments while expanding international reach for both brands. F1 has seen consistent growth globally and most recently in the U.S. with 2023 races in Austin, Miami and Las Vegas."
It's worth noting that GM has never had a significant presence in F1, despite its extensive motorsports background. In the United States, GM is primarily associated with NASCAR and IndyCar racing through its Chevrolet brand, as well as the numerous racing endeavors of its Corvette Racing team. Cadillac, on the other hand, has a strong presence in sports car racing and will compete with its all-new hybrid Cadillac V-LMDh in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA World Endurance Championship.
The decision now lies with the FIA. It is unclear when a decision may be made, but it seems that it would be hard to ignore the combined power of GM's Cadillac brand and the Andretti name, especially with the growing interest in F1 in the United States and the increased activity of the group in the country.
