Lexus has revealed more information about the Lexus RZ Sport Concept, unveiling a powertrain that boasts 402 horsepower. This isn't the first time the design study has been previewed, but it is the first time technical details have been provided.

The Sport Concept is equipped with a pair of 150 kW motors, one mounted on the front and one on the rear axle, resulting in a combined output of 402 horsepower. In comparison, the standard RZ 450e also has a 150 kW motor on the front axle but only an 80 kW motor on the rear, producing a total of 308 horsepower.

With competitors such as the Tesla Model Y Performance and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, it would be wise for Lexus to enter the high-performance electric crossover market. The Sport Concept and its 402 horsepower powertrain have shown that it is possible for Lexus to create such a vehicle.

However, it is uncertain if this will be the first signs of an electrified Lexus F crossover, as Lexus representatives have stated that F models will probably adopt hybrid technology before going fully electric. Another possibility is that the more powerful RZ could debut as an RZ 500e, giving buyers a choice of a high-powered model, the existing RZ 450e, and the forthcoming RZ 300e.

The Sport Concept also features a lowered suspension and wider tires that should improve handling. While these improvements will aid in creating a sportier derivative, it is likely that Lexus would tone down the styling to appeal to their conservative customer base. Hopefully, some of the details such as the four bucket seats will remain, but the body kit may be toned down.
