The updated look of both models is focused on their front ends, with larger headlights connected by an LED bar that runs above the illuminated VW emblem (standard on all trims but base models). This modernized design distinguishes them from their Chinese-market counterparts, the VW Terramont and Terramont X. The profile remains nearly unchanged aside from new wheel designs ranging between 18-21 inches depending on trim. At the rear, taillights are now connected by a chrome bar that creates a more sophisticated aesthetic and all trims but base get LED bars and illuminated logos. The Atlas Cross Sport also features a prominent diffuser to further differentiate its style.
As for upgrades to the interior, there's no shortage of premium materials and amenities added to all models including leatherette upholstery, digital cockpit paired with a 12" infotainment touchscreen and 10.25" digital instrument cluster plus 30 color ambient lighting options highlighting the illuminated "Atlas/Atlas Cross Sport" lettering on the passenger side. Standard features include advanced driver assistance systems such as semi-autonomous driving IQ Drive package, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, wireless charging & six USB-C ports as well as voice control system. Higher grade models offer optional Adaptive Cruise Control and head-up display plus quilted diamond pattern leather upholstery upgrade options.
Underneath the hood is a single 4-cylinder turbocharged 2.0L TSI engine producing 269hp (198kW / 273PS) higher torque figures than its predecessor at 370Nm in addition to 7hp (5kW / 7PS) below what was previously seen in 3.6 VR6 model while maintaining improved fuel economy & performance expectations.
The 2.0 TSI is matched solely to an 8-speed automatic transmission that distributes power either to the front wheels or, with the optional 4Motion AWD system which spans across its entire range, all four. Additionally, it retains its 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) towing capacity rating from previous models.
The 2024 VW Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport will be available in US showrooms at the start of Q3 2023, with pricing to be released nearer that time.
