Unlike Ram's EV concept truck, which was showcased last month, the production version looks quite different. The electric Ram's appearance is similar to the gas truck, with the exception of futuristic headlights and taillights and unique wheels, following in the footsteps of the Ford F-150 Lightning's design approach.
The Ram 1500 REV's body, apart from the modern-looking front and rear ends, looks almost identical to any other Ram pickup truck. The crew-cab body and short bed on this model are confirmed, but Ram hasn't announced whether it will offer any additional configurations. The REV's platform, called STLA Frame, is distinct, as it's tailored for body-on-frame EV models. Ram has confirmed that a gasoline engine range-extender version will be available. However, given the conventional appearance of this production truck, it's unlikely to feature many of the concept version's unusual features, such as third-row jump seats, although there is a frunk.
Ram has already opened a website, RamREV.com, to accept reservations. A refundable $100 deposit is required to join the REV Insider+ membership program.
“The Ram brand has redefined the pickup truck segment before, and will once again with its all-new Ram 1500 REV,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram brand CEO – Stellantis. “We believe in bringing the right range of powertrain solutions to our customers, and the Ram 1500 REV will be the first in a lineup of electrified solutions that will add to our current award-winning truck lineup. We are on an exciting electrification journey that will see Ram push past the competition in areas customers care about the most: range, payload, towing and charge time.”
The Ram 1500 REV will not begin production until next year, giving us ample time to learn more about its features and specifications before it becomes available to customers in 2024.
