The much-awaited long wheelbase version of Volkswagen's electric van, ID. Buzz, is almost ready to launch in the US market. The new model will be significantly shorter than gas-powered minivans but will provide more space inside, especially in the third row.

Spy photographers recently spotted the 2024 Volkswagen ID. Buzz testing in test mule form. The electric van has already launched in global markets, but Volkswagen has yet to release the US-spec model. The US version will be longer than the one available in other countries by more than 10 inches. The US market will not receive the short-wheelbase ID. Buzz, while other countries will have a choice between it and the long-wheelbase variant.

The LWB version can be identified by its sliding rear doors, which are clearly longer than the SWB version. By adding 10.6 inches to the wheelbase, the North American ID. Buzz will measure 196.1 inches long. Overall length is deceptive, though, since the ID Buzz has such short overhangs. Without an engine to house, interior comfort and practicality should be excellent.

VW has not announced US pricing yet, but it is hoped that the base ID. Buzz will be below $60,000, which is the price of the euro version. American buyers crave power, so VW may also offer a dual-motor model producing around 300 hp. The ID. Buzz won't arrive in the US until 2024, giving Volkswagen plenty of time to release more information about the vehicle.
