Designed to appeal to customers who want eco-friendly performance, the Grecale Folgore features a Trofeo-inspired front fascia with an “inverted grille” that is partially enclosed. That isn’t the only styling change as the crossover has been equipped with a new diffuser as well as aerodynamically optimized 19-, 20- and 21-inch wheels.
Besides being more aerodynamic, the EV has gloss black accents, illuminated ‘side vents,’ copper brake calipers, and copper badges. Customers can also get an exclusive Rame Folgore exterior that draws inspiration from the “façade of the Guggenheim … where warm copper hues in the sections in the sun co-exist with cooler shades of bluish grey in the areas in the shade.”
The colorful theme is echoed on the 14-way power heated and ventilated front seats, which feature Econyl upholstery. Maserati described it as a “regenerated nylon” made from waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps, and carpets destined for landfills. These are transformed into “virgin quality nylon yarn” that features a “highly opaque surface” as well as “laser processing,” which gives it a “parametric design that expresses a natural dynamism.”
That might be pushing it, but the seats are joined by embossed accents on the dashboard as well as “carbon copper 3D touch” trim on the center console and door panels.
The rest of the cabin is more traditional and drivers will find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and an Intelligent Assistant. The crossover also sports an 8.8-inch lower display and a head-up-display.
Since the Grecale Folgore is electric, the model has a handful of special touches including a cabin temperature maintenance function that keeps the interior at a comfortable temperature even when the crossover is turned off. Drivers will also find an EV-specific navigation system that is “fully aware of the battery condition” and can factor in charging stops along the way. The crossover can also show the maximum distance it can travel on a map, in real-time, according to charge status and your driving style.
Motion is provided by a 105 kWh battery pack, which powers a dual motor all-wheel drive system producing a combined output of 550 hp (410 kW / 557 PS) and 605 lb-ft (820 Nm) of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h).
That’s pretty quick and Maserati said we can expect a WLTP range of 311 miles (500 km). The crossover also has 400V technology and a 150 kW DC fast charging capability, which enables the battery to go from a 20-80% charge in as little as 29 minutes.
While the fast charging rate leaves a lot to be desired, the Grecale Folgore comes standard with an air suspension and four different driving modes known as GT, Sport, Off-Road, and Max Range. These are pretty self-explanatory, but Max Range mode is notable for being “recommended when the battery falls below 16% and there are no charging points nearby.” It helps eek out some extra miles by nerfing the climate control system, reducing responses to accelerator inputs, and limiting the top speed to 81 mph (130 km/h).
We’ll learn more about the Grecale Folgore closer to launch, but Maserati said the “future of electrification is rooted in China” and noted they’ll offer electric versions of all its models by 2025. Maserati will then go fully-electric by 2030.
