Polaris, a renowned name in off-road vehicles, has recently unveiled its latest offering, the 2024 Xpedition. Blurring the line between an SUV and an ATV, the Polaris Xpedition is a new overlanding adventure vehicle.

The Polaris Xpedition was built from scratch as a large two- or four-door side-by-side-style off-road vehicle, catering to the needs of adventure enthusiasts. Polaris recognizes that many buyers of UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) and ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) products often bring them on a trailer behind their overlanding or off-road vehicles. Alternatively, some users opt to upgrade to an overlanding rig without a UTV. Polaris aims to cater to these demands by offering a combined UTV and overlanding rig, introducing the Xpedition.

The Xpedition is a fully-enclosed two-seat vehicle with removable panels, including windscreen, windows, and roof. These panels are available in both cloth and hard materials, allowing for customization and modularity. The enclosed design not only makes the Xpedition more suitable for long-distance overlanding but also enables cabin heating and other amenities for a comfortable journey.

In terms of dimensions, the two-door Xpedition models are only slightly larger than Polaris' four-seat RZR models, measuring 122.5 x 64 x 74.9 inches (311.1 x 162.5 x 190.2 cm) in length, width, and height, respectively. With a wheelbase of 87.5 inches (222.2 cm) and a ground clearance of 14 inches (35.6 cm), the Xpedition offers ample space and capability for off-road adventures. The XP model includes a bed box with a 600-lb (272-kg) dump box capacity or a 1,160-lb (626-kg) full cargo capacity.

For those seeking additional storage space, the ADV model removes the dump bed option, increasing the storage box dimensions to 36.2 x 47.25 x 13.38 inches (92 x 120 x 34 cm) in both the two-door and four-door models. The payload capacity is 1,030 lb (467 kg) for the two-door model and 1,160 lb for the four-door model.

The Polaris Xpedition is equipped with a 999-cc ProStar 1000 Gen 2 EFI engine, delivering a robust 114 horsepower (85 kW) to an automatic passively variable transmission (PVT). The vehicle offers on-demand two-wheel and all-wheel drive with a rear-wheel bias, providing excellent traction and control. The front suspension boasts 14 inches (35.6 cm) of travel, while the rear suspension stretches to 15 inches (38.1 cm), ensuring a smooth and capable off-road performance.

The four-door Xpedition models are slightly longer, measuring a total of 152.5 inches (387.3 cm). However, they maintain the same dimensions in other aspects. The extended length allows for seating capacity of up to five passengers and a wheelbase of 117 inches (297.2 cm). The dry weight of the four-door model ranges from 2,100 lb (952.5 kg) to to 2,790 lb (1,265.5 kg).

The Xpedition off-road rig offers abundant accessories, available individually or in adventure-specific kits. Examples include the Overland kit (with lighting, rooftop tent, mud boards, Pro Armor Crawler XG tires, full-sized spare carrier, and more), Kayak kit (featuring kayak carrying accessories, skeleton half-doors, etc.), and other kits like Trail, Utility, and Hunt, each tailored with activity-focused add-ons.

Pricing for the new 2024 Polaris Xpedition begins at US$29,000 and runs to about $40,000, not including accessories. Polaris says that units will begin entering showrooms in the US in the fall of 2023, with the full model lineup being available by the end of year.
