Ken Okuyama, the renowned Japanese design maestro famous for his work on the iconic Ferrari Enzo, has unveiled his latest creation at the esteemed Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. The Kode61 Birdcage, a limited production roofless supercar, pays homage to the Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcage" racecar from the 1960s.

Drawing inspiration from the legendary Maserati Tipo 61 racecar, which graced the tracks from 1959 to 1961, the Kode61 Birdcage also incorporates elements from the striking 2005 Maserati Birdcage 75th concept. Okuyama's interpretation features a captivating roofless design, allowing the two-seater cabin to bask in the open air. In a bold move, the supercar forgoes a traditional windshield, embracing the raw essence of driving.

The Kode61 Birdcage showcases an exquisitely crafted bodywork, characterized by muscular fenders, sharp front and rear ends, and half-doors that open upward, evoking a sense of anticipation. Its distinctive appearance is further enhanced by slim lighting units and sleek black accents on the lower body, including front intakes and a pronounced diffuser. The three-spoke alloy wheels pay homage to the Maserati MC20 supercar, adding a touch of elegance and performance.

Step inside the Kode61 Birdcage, and you'll be transported to a world where retro meets modern. The interior boasts a dashboard with shiny elements, a gated manual shifter, and an analog instrument cluster, exuding a timeless allure. A passenger-facing screen adds a touch of contemporary technology while keeping the focus on the thrilling driving experience.

While specific technical details are still scarce, a closer look at the Kode61 Birdcage reveals some intriguing features. The presence of high-mounted dual exhausts at the rear and substantial intakes at the front suggests that this automotive marvel is likely powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). It is not uncommon for coachbuilt projects like this to employ existing supercar chassis and engines, skillfully concealed beneath bespoke bodywork and interior craftsmanship. It is highly probable that a similar approach has been taken with the Kode61 Birdcage, combining the best of both worlds.

Making its debut in the concept car category at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the Kode61 Birdcage represents a significant milestone as the first Japanese carrozzeria to be nominated. This recognition highlights the exceptional artistry and innovation of Ken Okuyama's design philosophy. However, the Kode61 Birdcage is not merely a design study. Okuyama himself has confirmed that this extraordinary supercar will be produced in limited quantities, each meticulously handcrafted at the renowned Yamagata factory in Japan.

While the exact pricing details remain undisclosed, it is clear that the Kode61 Birdcage will command a premium price tag, aligning with its exclusive nature and exceptional craftsmanship.
