Over the years, Bridgestone has been actively supporting the EV revolution through various partnerships. Notably, they developed a dedicated tire for the now-defunct Lightyear One solar EV and collaborated with autonomous commercial EV developer Einride to electrify its truck fleets. The tire manufacturer also joined forces with Blink Charging to deploy Level 2 EV chargers at numerous retail locations.
The Turanza EV tire made its grand entrance at the Electrify Expo in Long Beach, California. This replacement market tire boasts Bridgestone's innovative ENLITEN technology, which incorporates 50% renewable and recycled materials without compromising on longevity or all-season performance.
Among the recycled materials used are carbon black derived from old tires, synthetic rubber sourced from plastic bags and bottles, renewable soybean oil, and even silica extracted from rice husk, which is typically discarded during rice harvesting. Additionally, the Turanza EV tire features Bridgestone's PeakLife technology—a next-generation polymer that enhances tread wear resistance, resulting in a longer tire lifespan.
Riccardo Cichi, President and Chief Sales Officer for Bridgestone Americas, emphasized the tire's ability to provide exceptional ride comfort, all-season driving performance, and excellent wear life, aligning with the growing demand for electrified vehicles.
The Turanza EV tire comes with a 50,000-mile limited warranty and is designed for optimal performance on wet roads. Initially, the Turanza EV tire will be available in five sizes, catering to popular Tesla models (Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y) as well as the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Bridgestone plans to introduce an additional 13 tire sizes in early 2024.
