Ride-hailing giant Uber said on Thursday that customers will soon be able to track emissions avoided when choosing greener rides and have the option of shared rides in more cities to further reduce CO2 emissions.

Uber is introducing new features to help customers track CO2 emissions and choose greener rides. Customers will be able to track the amount of CO2 avoided when using Uber Green service or Comfort Electric service, which utilize low- or zero-emission vehicles.

Uber is aiming to have all cars on its platform fully electric by 2040. Currently, there are 60,000 electric vehicles active on the Uber platform.

The company is developing "Smart Charging" features for EV drivers that use machine learning to recommend optimal times and locations for charging, maximizing their earnings.

Uber plans to expand its "eco-friendly routes" globally, using mapping algorithms that consider factors like elevation and stopping at red lights to increase fuel efficiency without impacting trip times or fares.
