This innovative system is particularly advantageous outside of the depot, where noise sensitivity among residents may be a concern. Siemens ensures minimal noise generation during contact and when the charger lowers onto the bus roof, thanks to a special design and noise-absorbing coupling elements incorporated into the charging head. With an emphasis on noise reduction, Siemens claims that the pantograph exhibits the quietest contact build-up in its class, emitting a peak noise level of only 54 dB at a distance of ten meters.
While the current capacity of the pantograph reaches up to 600 kW, Siemens has plans to further develop the technology to support even higher charging currents in the near future. The e-Line OnBoard series impresses with its lightweight design, weighing less than 90 kilograms, and features a wear-resistant construction, ensuring durability. Additionally, an optional self-lowering function is available.
The charging pantograph's mechanical interface is compatible with existing roof pantographs, boasting installation dimensions of 600 x 630 mm. By incorporating the new Siemens charging pantograph, electric buses can maintain the same relative position to the charging station, eliminating the need for alterations to existing markings, as explained by Siemens.
Siemens has completed rigorous testing and field trials, affirming the readiness of the pantograph for series production. The device complies with EN 50696 standards in all aspects and can be seamlessly integrated with standard charging bonnets used today.
