Alfa Romeo is cooking up something good, and the results of its hard work will be revealed on August 30, it revealed today. Expected to be a supercar, the new Alfa Romeo will reportedly borrow inspiration from the brand’s legendary past and be called the 6C.

Along with the announcement from CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato that the new flagship model will be unveiled at the end of August, on a date coinciding with the Italian Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo released a teaser image with the tagline, “date to dream” (as translated from Italian).

The teaser image focuses on what looks like a section of a front grille. Previously, the automaker teased the car’s taillight, which looked a bit like both a 6 and a C.

That further fueled rumors that the car will join Alfa Romeo’s recent line of halo cars, including the 8C and the 4C. Given the rumors of the 6C name, and the flagship status of the upcoming Alfa, a six-cylinder engine is expected.

And Alfa Romeo has a very strong V6 to call upon. The Ferrari-derived, 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that powers the current Giulia Quadrifoglio has been widely appraised and, in GTAm form, makes a meaty 532 hp (397 kW/540 PS) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque.

One way or another, the car will be a “dream come true” for Imparato, who told Autocar that the project was “inspired by a daring team that wanted to achieve something unique.” Making use of the Italian brand’s history, the company may borrow design cues from the T33 Stradale for the upcoming 6C.

Imparato added that everyone at Stellantis considered him “completely mad” to green-light a project like this in the modern era, but that it will sit proudly alongside the 8C at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, where it is set to be unveiled on August 30.
