Toyota is contemplating expanding its model range in the US with a Corolla-based truck, but it won't be available until 2027. This model will be positioned in the compact pickup segment, competing with successful vehicles like the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The information is sourced from an Autonews article about Toyota's future lineup in North America. One of the upcoming models that stands out is the 'Corolla-based pickup,' which remains a possibility, but its appearance is still a work in progress. If it receives approval for production, the compact pickup will likely be manufactured at Toyota's Mississippi plant, right beside the regular Corolla.

Given the rugged nature of the compact pickup segment, Toyota will most likely give a unique appearance to the new model, rather than sharing body panels with the softer Corolla and Corolla Cross models.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Toyota’s plans for a smaller pickup. In a Motortrend interview last year, two high-ranking officials from Toyota North America discussed the possibility of such an offering. Cooper Ericksen, the group vice president of product planning and strategy, said, “If there’s a customer in need of a rugged, smaller body-on-frame vehicle, we can certainly consider that. However, if it’s intended for urban use with less extreme off-road requirements, then it would probably make more sense to utilize the TNGA unibody platform.”
