Spy photographers recently captured two camouflaged prototypes of the i30 wagon, confirming its inclusion in the facelifted lineup. While the profile of the vehicle remains unchanged from its predecessor, visual updates will be focused on the front end. Expect a redesigned bumper and tweaked grille, with LED graphics similar to the high-spec trims of the current model, though further tweaks might occur before the official unveiling.
The rear end of the wagon is also concealed, although the taillights appear unchanged. Hyundai's designers may work on freshening up the looks of the stretched rear overhang, as the i30 wagon has been considered the least visually appealing compared to its hatchback and fastback counterparts.
Inside the cabin, we can anticipate some upgrades, particularly to the infotainment and digital cockpit. These updates will bring the i30 closer to its rivals in terms of technology. Furthermore, Hyundai might emphasize electrified options, including mild-hybrids and possibly a self-charging hybrid, making it the first for the i30 model.
While SUVs have gained significant popularity, several carmakers, including Hyundai, continue to support the compact wagon segment. Rivals for the updated Hyundai i30 wagon will include models like the VW Golf Variant, Seat Leon Sportstourer, Peugeot 308 SW, Opel Astra Sports Tourer, Ford Focus Estate, and Toyota Corolla Touring Sports.
The facelifted Hyundai i30 range is expected to debut in late 2023 or early 2024. It's worth noting that the second generation of the i30 was introduced in 2016, with the first facelift following in 2020. Hyundai's commitment to keeping the i30 alive for another generation dispels earlier rumors about a possible discontinuation in favor of electric vehicles.
