Electromobility lies at the heart of worldwide initiatives to promote eco-friendly transportation. Compact electric vehicles, particularly in Europe, are poised to play a significant role in this movement. Kia has taken the lead by introducing the latest iteration of their electric model, the Ray. However, the initial release is limited to the domestic market in South Korea.

With a 64.3 kW electric motor, the Ray EV offers 30% more power and is equipped with a 35.2 kWh battery, which has nearly double the capacity of the cells in the previous model. This gives the vehicle a range of 210 kilometers, almost twice that of its predecessor.

“The new Ray EV is set to expand customers’ options with a mileage of more than 200 km, optimized driving performance for the metropolitan center and a spacious interior,” said a Kia official. “It s the best choice for customers waiting for an entry electric minicar.”

Kia is also set to release a single-seat van of the new electric city car, which is expected to attract the self-employed and small business owners.

For the first time, the new electric city car is predicted to be on the top ten best-selling cars list since its debut in 2011. Kia sold a total of 44,556 Rays in 2022 at a starting price of about $25,000 to $30,000. The Ray EV competes for the favor of price-conscious drivers and represents an interesting option in a market that has been dominated by larger and more expensive models.
