The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a versatile supercar, both in terms of its powertrain options and what it symbolizes for the brand. Customers can choose between a twin-turbo V6 engine and an all-electric powertrain, presenting two distinct philosophies of vehicle performance. The 33 Stradale serves as both a culmination of Alfa Romeo's storied past and a stepping stone into its future.
Larry Dominique, Senior Vice President and Head of North American Operations for Alfa Romeo, states that the 33 Stradale pays tribute to the iconic model from the late 1960s. The limited run of 33 units was completely booked well before its official release on August 30. The car is designed to epitomize what makes an Alfa Romeo, irrespective of its powertrain choice.
"This is one of the reasons why we wanted to offer both powertrains on the 33 project," explained Dominique. "It's an opportunity to showcase the fact that we, as Alfa Romeo, can make an Alfa Romeo first and foremost regardless of the powertrain. We're going to be able to deliver Alfa DNA, Alfa experience, regardless of the drivetrain definition. What does that mean? For us, it's Italian, it's sporty, it's Rosso. So as long as the vehicle delivers on being an Alfa Romeo first, the powertrain in some ways is secondary."
Concerning the buyer preferences, Dominique mentions that the V6 option is substantially more popular than the electric variant. While he didn't disclose exact figures, he did note that only "a few" electric versions are underway. Production is slated to begin on June 24, 2024, coinciding with the brand's 114th anniversary, leaving some time for buyers to reconsider their choices.
For those opting for the electric setup, the vehicle will deliver over 750 horsepower, although the specifics of the powertrain layout remain undisclosed. Those sticking with the traditional gasoline engine will enjoy a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 generating more than 620 horsepower, channeled through a ZF eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Regardless of which powertrain they select, the 33 Stradale promises a 0 to 100 km/h time under three seconds and a top speed of 333 km/h.
