In September, Mercedes-Benz is initiating a comprehensive over-the-air update for its multimedia platform on more than 700,000 vehicles globally that are equipped with the second-generation MBUX system. This update introduces new features like Dolby Atmos, Voice Assistant refinements, and navigation and entertainment improvements.
Owners will be alerted to the MBUX Entertainment Update 2.4 through the Update Wizard or via the Mercedes me mobile application. Once it is available, the update will be distributed via the vehicle's over-the-air capabilities. Alongside the Dolby Atmos and Voice Assistant improvements, this update also incorporates the NewsFlash feature and YouTube Web app on specific 2024 model year vehicles such as the S-Class, EQE, and EQS, which have the activated Entertainment Package Plus.
With backing from Apple Music, the Dolby Atmos feature offers a rich sound experience, contributing added dimension, clarity, and depth to musical tracks. Listeners will appreciate music in a way that aligns closely with the artist's original intention, whether it’s the movement of instrumental layers, catching a singer’s subtle inhale between lines, or being enveloped by melodies.
The updated Voice Assistant in the MBUX system allows car occupants to choose infotainment options using the Hey Mercedes command. The upcoming NewsFlash feature, set to launch later this year in the U.S., enables users to tune into news broadcasts covering a variety of topics like general news, business, finance, and culture. In addition, users can preset their preferred radio stations in the Mercedes me app and then prompt them using the Hey Mercedes voice command.
Additional features introduced in the OTA update consist of support for the front passenger Hyperscreen display in EQE and EQS models. This allows for in-cabin audio for interactive content and also enables photo customization for the display. Furthermore, wearing headphones is no longer mandatory for enjoying dynamic audio content.
For vehicles running the first-generation MBUX platform along with Mercedes-Benz Navigation, the update will grant access to Place Details by Google. Beyond merely offering an address and navigation guidance, this functionality supplies in-depth information for over 200 million locations globally, including operating hours, images, ratings, and customer reviews.
