Recently upgraded to a plug-in hybrid, the Hunter 2024 features a distinctly futuristic front end design. T-shaped LED headlights frame a large gloss black grille. The rear end design remains virtually unchanged from its predecessor. The two-row cabin is adorned with various chrome elements such as roof rails, door handles and side steps.
Inside, the Hunter boasts of a layout with two integrated screens. Changan mentions driver assistance features, but doesn't specify which ones are added to this mid-size pickup.
The panoramic monitors alone are a significant step up from the Peugeot Landtrek or Fiat Titano, which share the same platform with this Chinese car. The interior aesthetics are comparable to a standard SUV, though most functions are centered on the main screen, despite some conventional controls below it.
The most interesting feature of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system is a diesel engine, not a gasoline engine. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo unit with 190 hp is supplemented by two electric motors - one on each axle. The electric motor on the rear axle provides all-wheel drive. A 31.2 kWh battery pack provides an electric range of up to 180 kilometers. In hybrid mode, the range is 1,031 kilometers on the CLTC cycle.
The total power of the three-motor system reaches 272 hp. Hunter PHEV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
Changan Hunter PHEV is available in China in 8 configurations. The simplest rear-wheel drive version costs $19,500, the most affordable all-wheel drive version - $21,500. The top version is significantly more expensive at $30,500. Early buyers are promised a lifetime warranty on the powertrain.
