The first charging station will open in a few months in southern France, with 200 more planned to follow by mid-2024 in France, Belgium, Italy, and Spain, according to Mobilize, the French carmaker's e-mobility services unit.
The new charging stations will be installed at Renault dealerships located close to the highway exits. Drivers can rest for about 30 minutes while their car charges. The new charging locations will be open 24/7 and offer a lounge area, playing corners for children, and refreshments.
Mobilize plans to use a stationary storage system the size of a small container to charge up to six regular cars at the same time. This will avoid the need to install new power grid infrastructure.
