Pirelli's latest flagship tire, the P Zero Trofeo RS, is an evolution of the already-impressive Trofeo R tire, seen on hypercars like the McLaren 765LT. While the Trofeo R will still be available alongside the RS, the latter benefits from cutting-edge digital modeling techniques that enable Pirelli to experiment with various contact patches, tread patterns, and compound mixes virtually. This approach allows for maximum performance, with enhanced cornering response and stability. Pirelli's advancements in tire technology have truly taken the RS to new heights.
Similar to the Trofeo R, the P Zero Trofeo RS is a semi-slick, track-ready tire that is also street-legal. However, it's worth noting that this tire is not recommended for consistently wet conditions, and caution should be exercised when temperatures near freezing, even on dry roads. Nevertheless, for enthusiasts who take their Utopias and Dark Horses to the track, the P Zero Trofeo RS's compromises are outweighed by its exceptional performance.
Interestingly, the Mustang Dark Horse will only offer the Trofeo RS as an option in North America. Mark Rush, Global Ford Performance Motorsport Director, confirmed that the European market will receive the Dark Horse with regular P Zero tires instead. Adding to the intrigue, Ford managed to keep Pirelli's newest tire under wraps until its official announcement last week, despite images of the Mustang Dark Horse revealing the tire's presence as early as September of the previous year. In contrast, the Pagani Utopia's official debut showcased it wearing Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. Ford deserves credit for its clever concealment tactics.
