In Germany, Deutsche Telekom has activated its 200th public quick-charging facility. Located in Lemgo in the central-northwest part of the country, the facility features six chargers across two DC charging stations, delivering up to 200 kW of power.

Leveraging the existing assets of its properties, Deutsche Telekom is broadening its charger network. The tech firm initiated the construction of its expansive network of up to 12,000 public charging points in the second half of 2018, with around 500 of these slated to be quick-charging facilities.

The recent progress marker pertains solely to quick-charging sites, providing no indication regarding the total count of quick-charging stations or individual charging points. The company highlights the benefits of utilizing its own real estate for these installations, indicating that additional construction is often unnecessary due to the pre-existing electrical and data lines. It is noted that these public DC chargers exclusively use certified green energy.

Beyond the public charging infrastructure, Deutsche Telekom, via its subsidiary Comfortcharge GmbH, is also developing a “Charge@Work” charging network solely for its staff. This move complements the firm's increasing fleet of electric vehicles, as it started purchasing only EVs from January 1, 2023. According to corporate data, this decision has lifted the proportion of electric vehicles within Telekom’s company fleet in Germany to 25 per cent.
