The Slinger designed to be mounted on military vehicles as well as civilian off-road vehicles such as pickup trucks. It incorporates a radar, a 30mm Bushmaster M230LF cannon with specialised ammunition, and EOS proprietary stabilisation and pointing technology.
According to the manufacturer, the Slinger weighs about 400 kilograms. It can shoot down even small drones such as the DJI Matrice at a range of 1.4 km and the DJI Phantom at a range of 1 km. The optoelectronic system can detect targets up to 12 kilometers in daylight mode and up to 13.7 kilometers in night mode.
According to ABC, the first ten Slingers are expected to be delivered to Ukraine by the end of the year. They are part of a US military aid package.
Slinger's price tag is less than $1.55 million per system. It aims to take down drones at a cost of between $155 and $1,550 per engagement.
Last month, Ukraine's ambassador to Australia, Vasyl Myroshnychenko, saw first-hand during testing how Slinger can take down Russian drones at a fraction of the cost of anti-aircraft missiles.
"Sometimes those missiles cost millions. And you hit the drones, which cost $20,000, right? And it's all about the cost. But you never know where that drone is aiming at and what exactly that drone is going to destroy.," Mr Myroshnychenko said.
