In the lead up to the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo later this month, Nissan is revealing a series of all-electric concept vehicles, the first of which is the Nissan Hyper Urban crossover, digitally revealed today.

Nissan states that the Hyper Urban provides a glimpse into the design and tech features of its forthcoming electric models. The external design takes a daring detour from Nissan's existing Ariya electric SUV, with strong angular features that evoke comparisons to recent Hyundai designs.

The front of the Hyper Urban is adorned with a continuous LED light bar and an angular, curve-free fascia. It also comes with a high-gloss black bumper, which stands in stark contrast to its lime yellow paint—a color Nissan claims “shifts in hue depending on the angle of the light hitting it.”

Examining the side profile reveals an unusual four-door configuration featuring butterfly doors at the front and rear-hinged butterfly doors at the back. While such a design would likely be impractical for everyday use, it's worth remembering this is a concept vehicle. The rear is also dominated by another LED light bar and a sharply angled fascia.

As for the interior, Nissan has so far released only a solitary image showing the rear cabin. The picture showcases lounge-style seats paired with sizable ottomans and a central display screen for rear passengers. Interestingly, these ottomans are integrated into the front seats and can be folded back.

Nissan hasn't specified what type of electric drivetrain is in the Hyper Urban but notes it includes V2H (Vehicle to Home) and V2G (Vehicle to Grid) capabilities. The vehicle is also designed to allow for both hardware and software updates. For instance, the interior could be enhanced with a new digital dashboard to keep up with “the latest developments and shifts in graphic user interfaces.”
