In a recent series of trademark filings in Europe, Lexus seems to be setting the stage for a new fleet of concept vehicles, potentially as a glimpse into its future electric offerings.
The registered names align with Lexus's standard naming scheme, featuring the letters L, F, and Z. Specifically, the names are LF-ZC, LF-ZL, LF-ZV, and LF-ZA. The filings, discovered by Lexusevforum, unfortunately provide few additional details about the cars.
Historically, Lexus has utilized the LF prefix primarily for its concept vehicles. For instance, in 2018, the brand showcased the LF-1 Limitless, a luxury crossover concept, at the Detroit Auto Show.
Even more pertinent, the company recently launched the LF-Z Electrified concept, aimed at projecting the brand's future design direction. This concept eventually evolved into the RZ, a fully electric vehicle.
The combination of the LF and Z elements in the newly trademarked names suggests these monikers are likely designated for one or more concept cars linked to Lexus's electric vehicle strategy. To support this idea, Lexus is teasing an upcoming concept vehicle slated for an official reveal at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 on October 25.
Teaser of new Lexus EV concept
Characterized by its sharp design elements, signature L-shaped headlights, and illuminated Lexus logo, the anticipated concept is expected to be built on Toyota’s forthcoming electric vehicle platform. As Lexus plans to unveil a broad range of electric vehicles, it wouldn't be surprising if the brand were developing several concept cars to preview these.
While the specific plans remain undisclosed, Toyota, Lexus's parent company, recently announced that cars built on its upcoming EV platform could offer up to 800 km (497 miles) of range and have the capability to charge from 10-80 percent in just 20 minutes by 2026.
