Toyota is giving us a sneak peek at a new sports car set to debut later this month at the Japan Mobility Show. The initials FT stand for Future Toyota, raising hopes for a future production model.

The initial previews show a coupe featuring a futuristic design that's distinctly different from the current GR86 and Supra models. It seems to be an advanced version of the previously shown Sports EV concept, which also featured an orange body and a black roof. This could be a version that's closer to production.

This new electric coupe is named "FT-Se" and is adorned with multiple Gazoo Racing badges both inside and out. Interestingly, the rear of the car doesn't display the Toyota logo; instead, it's replaced by a black and red "GR" emblem in white letters. This badge is also visible on the car's yoke-style steering wheel and front fender.

While Toyota hasn't clarified the meaning behind these letters, it's known that "FT" usually stands for "Future Toyota." To put it in perspective, the 2014 FT-1 eventually became the 2020 Supra. It's likely that the "S" stands for "sport," while the "e" signifies electric.

The car not only features an emission-free powertrain and a revamped exterior, but it also sports a completely new interior that doesn't resemble the GR86 or Supra. The digital dashboard sits above the level of the steering wheel and is accompanied by an infotainment screen on the right and another display on the left. Though not yet visible, Toyota mentions that the concept will include new kneepads designed to shield the body from G-forces during driving.

It's uncertain if Toyota plans to roll out a production model of this concept car in the future. However, there's a hint of possibility, especially since the company's chairman, Akio Toyoda, recently indicated plans to bring back the Celica model. Moreover, whispers about a new MR2 continue to circulate.

More information is expected to be released on October 25 or 26, coinciding with the press days for the 2023 Japan Mobility Show.
