Nissan is set to introduce its electric minivan concept, the Hyper Tourer, at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show, along with at least two other electric vehicle (EV) concepts.

While minivans have lost some of their allure due to the rising popularity of SUVs and crossovers, the advent of an electric minivan shows the category is still alive. Electric vehicles offer unique design flexibility, giving manufacturers more creative room.

The Hyper Tourer benefits from Nissan's EV Technology Vision, which allows for a flat floor and a roomy interior. This design approach places components and solid-state batteries in a way that lowers the center of gravity, offering not only a spacious cabin but also making it suitable for modern camping needs.

The electric camper van market is also catching attention from other manufacturers. Nearly two years ago, Volkswagen said it would create a camper edition of its ID. Buzz electric van. Winnebago also showcased an electric camper based on Ford's E-Transit earlier this year. The design possibilities offered by electric vehicles are exemplified in Nissan's new concept.

Inside the Hyper Tourer, the front seats can rotate 360 degrees, making it easier for front and rear passengers to interact. Rear occupants can manage navigation and audio settings via a wearable display. The cabin also includes an overhead console with Japanese patterned lighting and a flat LED floor panel that can display images like a riverbed and sky.

The concept vehicle incorporates an AI system that adjusts mood lighting and music based on biometric data, including brain wave activity, breathing rate, sweat, and heart rate.

While specific information on the powertrain is scarce, Nissan has confirmed the minivan will use its e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system and feature solid-state batteries. Nissan isn't alone in exploring this technology; Toyota is also in the game.

The Hyper Tourer showcases a sleek exterior with distinctive sheet metal. Sharp lines run along the sides and taper at the rear, separated from the upper portion by a white beltline. The front end stands upright while the angled windshield adds a sporty touch, complete with an integrated spoiler.

Nissan's Hyper Tourer is one of at least three concept vehicles the company will present at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, starting October 25. The brand has also hinted at unveiling the Hyper Adventure and Hyper Urban concepts.
