Toyota has announced a number of new vehicles ahead of the 2023 Japan Mobility Show. One of them is a next-generation midsize pickup truck concept with a monocoque body, the EPU.

The Toyota EPU concept is a pickup truck that is likely to preview a future production model that will take on the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. The EPU is 5,070 mm (199.6 in) long, 1,910 mm (75.2 in) wide, and 1,710 mm (67.3 in) tall, with a 3,350 mm (131.9 in) long wheelbase.

It has five seats, a monocoque construction, and a battery-electric powertrain that hasn't been detailed. The EPU has a futuristic design with some features that tie it to the electric Land Cruiser Se. And for what it's worth, it looks to be closer to production than the aforementioned electric SUV concept, though we could be wrong about that.

Toyota has also provided a glimpse inside, where the electric pickup concept has a two-layer dashboard. It also comes with a dual-screen setup, minimalist air vents, and a few physical buttons, including those on the yoke-like steering wheel. It has a generous center console separating the front seats, and we can see numerous storage compartments to enhance its practicality.

The EPU will join several other Toyota concepts, including the Land Cruiser Se, at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo. Doors open to the public on October 26.
