To put it in perspective, during the third quarter, the total global shipments for the Model S and Model X fell 14 percent year-over-year to 15,985 units. The cumulative sales for 2023 so far have declined by 7 percent year-over-year, standing at 45,905. During its peak performance, Tesla was moving around 100,000 units annually.
As a part of its strategy to revitalize interest in the Model S and Model X, Tesla has been adding new color options. Back in March, the company unveiled an Ultra Red shade, initially pricing it at $3,000.
By September, Tesla made all optional colors available at no extra cost and enacted major price reductions ranging from $13,500 to $18,500. This allowed one of the Model X variants to become eligible for federal tax credits. Though there was a price hike for the Model X Plaid earlier this month, the overall package is now considerably more appealing than in previous months.
The newest development is the introduction of a Stealth Grey color, which takes the place of the previous Midnight Gray. Tesla has confirmed that this new color is accessible for the Model S and Model X in both North America and Asia. Interestingly, Europe was not included in the announcement, even though all the vehicles come from the same production facility.
While opinions on attractiveness may vary, the Stealth Grey color initially made its appearance on the Tesla Model 3 Highland edition, manufactured in Tesla's Giga Shanghai facility.
