Fiat has been selling the current generation Tipo in the UK since 2015, but it has never been particularly popular. The void it leaves in Fiat's line-up will be filled indirectly by the 600e electric SUV, which, while very different, is also significantly more modern and well-equipped and should prove much more popular with buyers.
Speaking to Autocar about the company's decision to drop the Tipo, a spokesman said it's because the company is now "committed to electric urban mobility". Consumers will have to pay a small premium for this shift in focus, however.
Whereas the Tipo was available from £28,745, or £29,245 in Cross guise, the Fiat 600e starts at £32,995. It's also worth noting that the Tipo was available with a 1.6-litre, 94-hp petrol engine or as a 128-hp mild hybrid, while the 600e is fully electric, which may not suit all buyers.
