The Tesla Model Y remained the world's best-selling plug-in vehicle in September with more than 121,000 new registrations.
Next on the list, there are five BYD vehicles (when including BEVs and PHEVs). This, combined with the fact that eight Chinese models are in the top ten, indicates the challenge experienced by major brands from Europe and North America.
Top 10 plug-in models of September 2023
- Tesla Model Y - 121,258
- BYD Song Plus - 63,800 (10,108 BEVs + 53,692 PHEVs)
- BYD Qin Plus - 43,010 (11,844 BEVs + 31,166 PHEVs)
- BYD Yuan Plus (aka Atto 3) - 35,378
- BYD Seagull - 35,012
- BYD Dolphin - 27,240
- GAC Aion Y - 27,004
- Tesla Model 3 - 26,058
- BYD Han - 22,936 (10,554 BEVs + 12,382 PHEVs)
- GAC Aion S - 21,548
It is worth noting that the Tesla Model 3 is having its worst month since July 2022 with only 26,058 registrations. This is due to the upcoming production change for the refreshed model. Despite this setback, the Tesla Model 3 still has the potential to catch up to the year-to-date registrations of the BYD Song family.
