Ford CEO Jim Farley launched a new teaser campaign on social media. The dropped image is related to "what's next for Mustang" and the letters GT/CS are clearly visible.

Ford enthusiasts will immediately recognize this as the badging for the Mustang California Special. But there's more to this teaser.

When the teaser image was brightened, numbers and letters appeared in the lower left corner. They read: 11/11/23 and 33° 26' 23.8" N, 117° 37' 40.116" W.

So we have a date and coordinates. Running them through Google Maps gives us a point at the Outlets of San Clemente, a shopping mall in the Los Angeles suburb of San Clemente. Presumably this is where we will find the new Mustang GT California Special.

The California Special has been a popular upgrade for the Mustang, giving it a style similar to the Shelby GT while being more affordable.  It made its debut in 1968 and was brought back by Ford in 2007 to coincide with the revival of the Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT. Interestingly, the 2007-2008 Mustang Shelby GT started as a GT/CS before being sent to Shelby's facility in Las Vegas for further customizations.

Changes to the GT/CS aren't always only about looks. In the past, some minor adjustments were made to the exhaust system, intake, and suspension tuning. It's unclear if the current car will come with any mechanical upgrades along with its visual upgrades.

Based on the not-so-secret clues in the teaser photo, it's probable that the Mustang California Special will debut at this outlet mall on November 11.  It's only logical for Ford to bring the latest Mustang California Special to the 2023 LA Auto Show, which opens to the public on November 17th.
