BYD has reached a significant milestone with the production of its 6 millionth New Energy Vehicle (the term used for plug-in electric vehicles in China). The marker vehicle, the Fang Cheng Bao 5 SUV, was produced just three months after the company's 5 millionth NEV.

This milestone reflects BYD's strategic shift to focus exclusively on NEVs from April 2022.

The company's path to 6 million NEVs shows an accelerating production pace: it took 13 years to produce the first million NEVs, with the first model being the BYD F3 DM launched in 2008. After that, the pace quickened considerably, with the second million achieved in just 12 months, the third million in 6 months, and an additional 2 million vehicles in the following 9 months.

BYD's manufacturing network consists of nine passenger car plants across China, located in Xi'an, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Changzhou, Xiangyang, Hefei, Changsha, Fuzhou and Shenzhen. These plants not only serve the Chinese market, but also supply vehicles to 58 countries worldwide. The company's expansion plans include establishing factories in countries such as Thailand and Brazil, further expanding its global footprint.
