Orxa Energies, an Indian electric vehicle startup, has recently unveiled its first electric motorcycle, the Orxa Mantis. Initially presented as a concept in 2019, its launch was delayed due to global disruptions but is now set to make a significant mark in the electric motorcycle sector.

Performance and Specifications

The Orxa Mantis stands out with its liquid-cooled electric motor, delivering 20.5 kilowatts, equivalent to 27 horsepower. It offers a respectable torque of 93 Nm, allowing the bike to reach a top speed of 135 kilometers per hour and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Its 8.9 kilowatt-hour battery pack enables a range of up to 221 kilometers on a single charge, positioning it as a reliable choice for both urban and longer journeys.

Charging and Features

The Mantis offers two charging options: the "Blitz" fast charger, which fully charges the bike in two-and-a-half hours, and a standard 1.3-kilowatt charger requiring five hours. The motorcycle is equipped with a 5-inch, full-color TFT display that supports smartphone pairing and navigation. Its full-LED lighting system, including a twin-projector LED setup, enhances night visibility and adds to the bike's aesthetic appeal. Features like regenerative braking and ABS are also included.

Design and Build

Orxa Energies has focused on a lightweight design, using aerospace-grade aluminum for the frame. The Mantis features 41-millimeter telescopic forks upfront and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by 320-millimeter front and 230-millimeter rear disc brakes. Weighing in at just 182 kilograms, the Mantis is comparable to conventional bikes like the Honda CB500F.

Pricing and Availability

The Orxa Mantis is priced at Rs 360,000 (about $4,322 USD), including the 1.3-kilowatt charger, with the Blitz charger available separately. Orxa Energies is offering a three-year, 30,000-kilometer warranty, reflecting their confidence in the Mantis. The first batch of these electric motorcycles is expected to reach customers in April 2024.
