BMW and Tyde have once again joined forces, this time to create 'The Open'—an electric luxury yacht poised to be the largest climate-friendly hydrofoil in its class. This marks their second venture into electric boats, blending the best of automotive and maritime engineering.

Spanning nearly 15 meters, 'The Open' integrates electric car technology from BMW. It's powered by two 100 kW electric motors and boasts a substantial 400 kWh battery. This combination promises impressive performance on the water.

The yacht's anticipated range is about 50 nautical miles (93 km) at a cruising speed of 25 knots (46 km/h). Tyde plans to start delivering 'The Open' in autumn 2024, offering an innovative blend of luxury and sustainability.

The collaboration has Tyde overseeing the yacht's design, development, production, and marketing. BMW's role extends beyond supplying e-mobility components; its subsidiary, Designworks, also contributes to the yacht's design.

This project follows their previous collaboration on 'The Icon', a 13.15-meter yacht capable of reaching 30 knots (55 km/h). Both yachts feature advanced underwater hydrofoils, which Tyde claims can reduce energy consumption by up to 80%.

“With ‘The Icon’, we have shown how elegant and luxurious sustainable mobility on water can be. The continuation of our cooperation with BMW is now fuelling our entry into another segment. The new model brings pioneering mobility to the day yacht segment,” says Christoph Ballin, co-founder and Managing Director of Tyde.
